In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Uruguay (X tons) was the main destination for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from Argentina, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports to Uruguay exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), more than tenfold. Chile (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Uruguay amounted to +32.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+11.4% per year) and Chile (-18.6% per year).

In general, the export price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 15%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 87%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 70% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Brazil (X tons), France (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports to Argentina, together comprising 56% of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Spain, Mexico, Italy and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 26%.
