In value terms, wheat exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a notable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 81%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Brazil (X tons) was the main destination for wheat exports from Argentina, with a 34% share of total exports. Moreover, wheat exports to Brazil exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X tons), threefold. Algeria (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Brazil stood at -2.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (-1.0% per year) and Algeria (+4.7% per year).
In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the key foreign market for wheat exports from Argentina, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Brazil was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+8.7% per year) and Nigeria (+15.5% per year).

In 2022, the average wheat export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, wheat export price increased by +55.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Vietnam ($X per ton) and Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($X per ton) and Mauritania ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, imports of wheat into Argentina shrank sharply to X tons, which is down by -24% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 13,147%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wheat imports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 1,526% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of wheat imports to Argentina, together accounting for 93% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +92.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
