In 2021, the amount of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms exported in ASEAN amounted to X tons, rising by 2% against 2020. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 42%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, ABS copolymers exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) was the largest exporter of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms, making up 62% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together committing a 29% share of total exports. The following exporters - Singapore (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - each reached an 8.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ABS copolymers exports from Malaysia stood at +4.2%. At the same time, Indonesia (+40.0%), Vietnam (+37.6%), Singapore (+8.2%) and Thailand (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +40.0% from 2012-2021. While the share of Vietnam (+5.6 p.p.) and Indonesia (+3.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Malaysia (-10.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest ABS copolymers supplier in ASEAN, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 28% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Malaysia amounted to +1.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+5.8% per year) and Singapore (+5.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 46% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (-0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, the amount of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms imported in ASEAN surged to X tons, rising by 38% against the previous year. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +36.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ABS copolymers imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented the main importer of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (abs) copolymers in primary forms in ASEAN, making up 91% of total import. The following importers - the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) - each recorded an 8.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +16.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest ABS copolymers importing markets in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +12.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
