Exports in ASEAN

Aluminium window and door exports rose significantly to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 7.2% on 2020 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, aluminium window and door exports rose modestly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Thailand was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 64% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together took near 32% share of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium window and door exports from Thailand stood at +3.8%. At the same time, the Philippines (+26.6%), Vietnam (+24.8%), Singapore (+21.4%) and Malaysia (+7.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +26.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+4.1 p.p.), Vietnam (+4 p.p.), the Philippines (+3.9 p.p.) and Malaysia (+2.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia and Thailand saw its share reduced by -5.3% and -9.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest aluminium window and door supplier in ASEAN, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 9.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+5.1% per year) and the Philippines (+26.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -2.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 25%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, supplies from abroad of aluminium doors, thresholds for doors and windows decreased by -4.5% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -16.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 69% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium window and door imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -9.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented roughly 47% of total imports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Thailand (11%), Malaysia (9.7%), the Philippines (8.5%) and Cambodia (6.4%).

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +24.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and the Philippines ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +28.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+13.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
