In 2021, the ASEAN amine-function compounds market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, overseas shipments of amine-function compounds increased by 10% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, exports posted a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 124%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, amine-function compounds exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The Philippines represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 74% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Thailand (7.6%).
The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the amine-function compounds exports, with a CAGR of +47.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+13.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Singapore (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Philippines (+69 p.p.) and Thailand (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore saw its share reduced by -65.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the largest amine-function compounds supplying countries in ASEAN were the Philippines ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 99% of total exports.
The Philippines, with a CAGR of +45.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -4% against the previous year. Export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, amine-function compounds export price decreased by -24.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+13.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of amine-function compounds, when their volume increased by 16% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, amine-function compounds imports surged to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of amine-function compounds imports in 2021 were Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together recording 73% of total import. Malaysia (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by the Philippines (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together held near 26% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +12.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest amine-function compounds importing markets in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports. Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +9.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, surging by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+1.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
