In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 74% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Vietnam and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 26%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+0.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of anionic surface-active agents (excluding soap) increased by 19% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
