Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, anti-freezing preparations exports in ASEAN skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 44% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, exports showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 327% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, anti-freezing preparations exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 277%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand represented the key exporter of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids in ASEAN, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 52% of total exports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (21%) and Malaysia (5.3%).

Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+171.0%), Malaysia (+33.2%) and Singapore (+14.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +171.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore increased by +22, +4.2 and +3.1 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest anti-freezing preparations supplying countries in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 96% share of total exports.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +140.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -5.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 5.8% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (-2.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

Anti-freezing preparations imports soared to X tons in 2021, jumping by 25% on the previous year. In general, imports posted buoyant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, anti-freezing preparations imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 22%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

The countries with the highest levels of anti-freezing preparations imports in 2021 were Indonesia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together accounting for 99% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Singapore (with a CAGR of +21.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 56% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Singapore, with a CAGR of +15.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
