The ASEAN antimony market dropped dramatically to $X in 2022, declining by -17.7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption showed a abrupt descent. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Antimony Production in ASEAN

In value terms, antimony production shrank to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the amount of antimony exported in ASEAN surged to X tons, with an increase of 42% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 99%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, antimony exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a notable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 125%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of antimony, namely Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +28.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest antimony supplying countries in ASEAN were Myanmar ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +36.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+6.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Antimony Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, imports of antimony in ASEAN reduced notably to X tons, which is down by -61.7% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports faced a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 126%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, antimony imports dropped sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Thailand prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 83% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), constituting a 9.1% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of -10.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+18.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Malaysia (-6.7%) and Indonesia (-29.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia increased by +43, +8.8 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antimony in ASEAN, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 7.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 3.7% share.

In Thailand, antimony imports decreased by an average annual rate of -9.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+23.8% per year) and Malaysia (-0.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 60%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Indonesia ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
