Antisera Market Size in ASEAN
The ASEAN antisera market fell to $X in 2021, which is down by -6.8% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +96.1% against 2012 indices. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.
Antisera Production in ASEAN
In value terms, antisera production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 206% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Antisera Exports
Exports in ASEAN
In 2021, approx. X tons of antisera and other blood fractions were exported in ASEAN; leveling off at 2020 figures. In general, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 155%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, antisera exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 226% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Singapore dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 89% of total exports in 2021. Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
Exports from Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +13.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+68.1%) and Malaysia (+24.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +68.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-10.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Singapore (+18 p.p.), Vietnam (+3.7 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-23.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest antisera supplier in ASEAN, comprising 100% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 0.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 0.1% share.
In Singapore, antisera exports expanded at an average annual rate of +24.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (-4.6% per year) and Malaysia (+10.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per kg, increasing by 9.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 56% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per kg), while Vietnam ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+9.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Antisera Imports
Imports in ASEAN
For the third year in a row, ASEAN recorded growth in purchases abroad of antisera and other blood fractions, which increased by 70% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 99%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, antisera imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
Thailand represented the key importer of antisera and other blood fractions in ASEAN, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 36% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons), together making up a 54% share of total imports. The following importers - Malaysia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +53.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest antisera importing markets in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 31%.
Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +42.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -45.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 51%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
