Apple Juice Market Size in ASEAN

In 2021, the ASEAN apple juice market decreased by -3.8% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, apple juice production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 35%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In 2021, overseas shipments of apple juice (single strength) increased by 49% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, apple juice exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a prominent increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented roughly 94% of total exports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +58.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest apple juice supplying countries in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 94% of total exports.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +63.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Apple Juice Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, approx. X tons of apple juice (single strength) were imported in ASEAN; falling by -2.7% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, apple juice imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 34%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of apple juice (single strength), namely Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Cambodia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons), together comprising a 32% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +16.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 64% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +18.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 17% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+8.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
