Apricot Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN apricot market declined to $X in 2022, which is down by -2% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Apricot Production in ASEAN

In value terms, apricot production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 81%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of apricot production was Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), accounting for 68% of total volume. Moreover, apricot production in Lao People's Democratic Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Vietnam (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Lao People's Democratic Republic amounted to +1.2%.

Apricot Exports

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, shipments abroad of apricots decreased by -24.5% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1,678% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, apricot exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 287% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Vietnam (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together mixing up 97% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +225.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest apricot supplying countries in ASEAN were Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Singapore ($X), together accounting for 99% of total exports.

Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +409.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, declining by -12.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 172%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (+56.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, overseas purchases of apricots decreased by -10.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, apricot imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Singapore (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented the major importers of apricots in 2022, accounting for approx. 38% and 36% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), committing a 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Cambodia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 4.8% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 94% share of total imports. Indonesia and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.1%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +11.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+4.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
