Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of articles of cellulose fibre-cement, not containing asbestos declined markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of articles of cellulose fibre-cement, not containing asbestos, namely Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam, represented more than two-thirds of total export. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), committing a 5.9% share of total exports.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 12% share.

In Vietnam, exports of articles of cellulose fibre-cement, not containing asbestos increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (-26.0% per year) and Indonesia (+8.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, growing by 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, purchases abroad of articles of cellulose fibre-cement, not containing asbestos was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 63%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of articles of cellulose fibre-cement, not containing asbestos reduced to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +9.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Imports by Country

Singapore represented the main importer of articles of cellulose fibre-cement, not containing asbestos in ASEAN, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 46% of total imports in 2022. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together took near 44% share of total imports. Brunei Darussalam (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Singapore decreased at an average annual rate of -14.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+12.4%) and Malaysia (+9.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Indonesia (-4.4%), Vietnam (-8.2%), Brunei Darussalam (-13.6%) and Cambodia (-30.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia and Vietnam increased by +16, +13 and +4.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported articles of cellulose fibre-cement, not containing asbestos in ASEAN, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with an 8.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam totaled +11.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+12.4% per year) and Singapore (-12.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, declining by -9.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 59% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+21.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
