The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Thailand prevails in fibre-cement structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) held a 9.8% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (8.6%).
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+10.7%) and Vietnam (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +10.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Indonesia increased by +3.4 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement supplier in ASEAN, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand stood at +3.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+9.7% per year) and Vietnam (-2.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-0.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
Imports of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement stood at X tons in 2021, increasing by 12% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +83.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 71%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) represented the largest importer of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement, generating 50% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 19% share, followed by Cambodia (15%) and Myanmar (7.5%). Vietnam (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement imports into Lao People's Democratic Republic stood at +18.2%. At the same time, Malaysia (+25.7%), Vietnam (+16.6%) and the Philippines (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Myanmar (-9.5%) and Cambodia (-12.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Lao People's Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines increased by +37, +16, +2.9 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the Philippines ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement in ASEAN, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 12% share.
In the Philippines, imports of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement expanded at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lao People's Democratic Republic (+20.1% per year) and Malaysia (+10.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 88%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
