Plaster Article Market Size in ASEAN

After two years of growth, the ASEAN plaster article market decreased by -1% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by +0.8% against 2017 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Plaster Article Production in ASEAN

In value terms, plaster article production contracted modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -1.4% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 43%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

Plaster Article Exports

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, overseas shipments of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster decreased by -3.9% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plaster article exports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand dominates exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 92% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), mixing up a 5.9% share of total exports.

Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster. Indonesia (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+13 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-1.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest plaster article supplier in ASEAN, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 4.8% share of total exports.

In Thailand, plaster article exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2021.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 8.3%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+0.7%).

Plaster Article Imports

Imports in ASEAN

Plaster article imports contracted to X tons in 2021, which is down by -5.7% against the year before. In general, imports recorded a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 21%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plaster article imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the six major importers of articles of plaster or of compositions based on plaster, namely Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +20.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plaster article importing markets in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and the Philippines ($X), together accounting for 62% of total imports. Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +17.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 13% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+9.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
