Ball Market Size in ASEAN
The ASEAN ball market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, with an increase of 24% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a pronounced setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Ball Production in ASEAN
In value terms, ball production rose to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.
Ball Exports
Exports in ASEAN
In 2022, shipments abroad of balls increased by 15% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 28%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, ball exports soared to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +81.4% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Thailand (X units) represented the major exporter of balls, mixing up 71% of total exports. Vietnam (X units) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Philippines (6.5%) and Indonesia (4.8%). Cambodia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cambodia (+51.4%), Vietnam (+7.7%) and Indonesia (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +51.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the Philippines (-10.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+8.1 p.p.), Vietnam (+5.8 p.p.) and Cambodia (+2.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the Philippines saw its share reduced by -16.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 89% of total exports. The Philippines and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.4%.
Cambodia, with a CAGR of +43.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Export price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 42%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+11.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ball Imports
Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, the amount of balls imported in ASEAN skyrocketed to X units, with an increase of 68% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports showed a pronounced expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ball imports surged to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Malaysia represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 50% of total imports. Vietnam (X units) held a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (7.9%), the Philippines (5.7%) and Indonesia (5.7%). Singapore (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +21.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported balls in ASEAN, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Malaysia amounted to +4.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+7.3% per year) and Thailand (-0.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, growing by 20% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 25%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
