Bedspread Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN bedspread market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, surging by 15% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. In value terms, bedspread production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -11.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Bedspread Exports

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) exported in ASEAN plummeted to X units, shrinking by -59% against 2020 figures. Overall, exports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 39%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bedspread exports contracted notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 37%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X units) and Cambodia (X units) dominates exports structure, together comprising 85% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), creating a 7.7% share of total exports. The following exporters - Singapore (X units) and Indonesia (X units) - together made up 7.1% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +79.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bedspread supplying countries in ASEAN were Cambodia ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 85% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +50.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -27.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 11%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) imported in ASEAN expanded remarkably to X units, growing by 8.6% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 77%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bedspread imports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Malaysia was the key importer of bedspreads (excluding eiderdowns) in ASEAN, with the volume of imports amounting to X units, which was approx. 61% of total imports in 2021. The Philippines (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Singapore (X units). All these countries together held approx. 26% share of total imports. Indonesia (X units), Myanmar (X units) and Brunei Darussalam (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to bedspread imports into Malaysia stood at +19.2%. At the same time, Indonesia (+48.7%), Myanmar (+34.2%), Singapore (+6.4%) and the Philippines (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +48.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Brunei Darussalam (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (+37 p.p.), Indonesia (+4.2 p.p.) and Myanmar (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines saw its share reduced by -3.1% and -4.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest bedspread importing markets in ASEAN were Malaysia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Singapore ($X), together accounting for 87% of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 9.5%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +36.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, declining by -13.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 279%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
