In 2021, the ASEAN brassiere, girdle and corset market decreased by -14.2% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption showed a mild reduction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset production rose sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -7.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2021, approx. X tons of brassieres, girdles and corsets were exported in ASEAN; picking up by 30% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports showed buoyant growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main exporters of brassieres, girdles and corsets in 2021, accounting for near 40% and 29% of total exports, respectively. Myanmar (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Cambodia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 29% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +59.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest brassiere, girdle and corset supplier in ASEAN, comprising 48% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 23% share of total exports. It was followed by Myanmar, with an 11% share.
In Vietnam, brassiere, girdle and corset exports expanded at an average annual rate of +20.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+5.0% per year) and Myanmar (+47.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Brassieres, Girdles And Corsets
Imports in ASEAN
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of brassieres, girdles and corsets increased by 10% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -20.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 22%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Indonesia was the main importer of brassieres, girdles and corsets in ASEAN, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 52% of total imports in 2021. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Malaysia (15%). Singapore (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+22.4%) and Thailand (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +22.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-1.8%) and Singapore (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Indonesia and Cambodia increased by +18 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 67% of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 20%.
Cambodia, with a CAGR of +17.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the import price increased by 25% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
