In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of brooms, brushes, and mops, when their volume decreased by -1.7% to X units. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports fell slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 16%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand represented the major exporter of brooms, brushes, and mops in ASEAN, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 47% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units) and Malaysia (X units), together achieving a 41% share of total exports. Singapore (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Cambodia (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +74.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest broom, brush, and mop supplier in ASEAN, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 14% share.

In Vietnam, broom, brush, and mop exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+1.2% per year) and Malaysia (+1.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 22%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Brooms, Brushes, And Mops

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, overseas purchases of brooms, brushes, and mops were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +17.2% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 19%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Thailand (X units) and the Philippines (X units) represented roughly 50% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), Vietnam (X units), Singapore (X units) and Indonesia (X units), together achieving a 44% share of total imports. Myanmar (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +25.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and the Philippines ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 55% share of total imports.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +16.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -18.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 12%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Myanmar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+8.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
