Cadmium Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN cadmium market reached $X in 2022, with an increase of 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, saw a deep setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cadmium production fell modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a deep reduction. Cadmium exports fell remarkably to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -30.6% against 2021. Overall, exports saw a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 7,384%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cadmium exports dropped notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 2,503% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Malaysia dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), constituting a 4.9% share of total exports.

Exports from Malaysia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Singapore (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +5.3% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Singapore increased by +2.5 percentage points.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest cadmium supplier in ASEAN, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.

In Malaysia, cadmium exports decreased by an average annual rate of -17.6% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -14.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 48%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia totaled $X per ton.

In 2022, approx. X tons of cadmium and articles thereof were imported in ASEAN; with a decrease of -3.4% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 632%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cadmium imports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a sharp setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 1,354%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Malaysia was the key importer of cadmium and articles thereof in ASEAN, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 71% of total imports in 2022. Vietnam (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 26% share of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Malaysia decreased at an average annual rate of -10.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+30.1%) and Indonesia (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +30.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-1.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia increased by +19, +3 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cadmium and articles thereof in ASEAN, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Malaysia stood at -23.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (-16.6% per year) and Indonesia (+4.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price faced a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 99%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
