After two years of growth, overseas shipments of canary seed decreased by -21.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 2,167% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, canary seed exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 607% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Singapore prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 96% of total exports in 2022. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Singapore was also the fastest-growing in terms of the canary seed exports, with a CAGR of +60.3% from 2012 to 2022. Indonesia (-17.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Singapore increased by +93 percentage points.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest canary seed supplier in ASEAN, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 2.4% share of total exports.

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 211% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (-1.3%).
Canary Seed Imports
Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, supplies from abroad of canary seed increased by 19% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 78%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, canary seed imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 95%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Indonesia was the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which accounted for 76% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), mixing up a 20% share of total imports. Thailand (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to canary seed imports into Indonesia stood at +10.4%. At the same time, the Philippines (+17.7%) and Thailand (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +17.7% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Indonesia stood at +16.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+23.1% per year) and Thailand (+8.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
