The ASEAN cereal germ market contracted modestly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -2.8% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of cereal germ, when their volume decreased by -28% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, cereal germ exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 102% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Indonesia (X tons) represented roughly 99% of total exports in 2021.
Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cereal germ exports, with a CAGR of +2.3% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) also remains the largest cereal germ supplier in ASEAN.

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 3.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 43% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Indonesia.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Indonesia amounted to -5.0% per year.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, imports of cereal germ in ASEAN skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 34% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cereal germ imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Brunei Darussalam (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) represented the main importer of cereal germ in ASEAN, committing 92% of total import. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), constituting a 4.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +35.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 80% share of total imports. The Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
Indonesia, with a CAGR of +22.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -18.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 64%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (+12.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
