In 2022, the ASEAN copper chain market increased by 7.8% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, consumption showed a drastic downturn. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, copper chain production rose to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2022, the amount of chain and parts thereof of copper exported in ASEAN fell to X tons, reducing by -5.6% compared with the year before. Overall, exports recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 442%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, copper chain exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 459% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Singapore (X tons) represented the major exporter of chain and parts thereof of copper, creating 65% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) took a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (5.5%). Indonesia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of chain and parts thereof of copper. At the same time, Vietnam (+22.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +22.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Indonesia (-1.6%) and Malaysia (-26.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Singapore and Vietnam increased by +34 and +26 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest copper chain supplying countries in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +29.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, waning by -7.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+5.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, supplies from abroad of chain and parts thereof of copper decreased by -6.3% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 187% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, copper chain imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) was the key importer of chain and parts thereof of copper, mixing up 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), mixing up a 35% share of total imports. The following importers - Singapore (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - each amounted to a 3.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +1.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chain and parts thereof of copper in ASEAN, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 5% share.
In Indonesia, copper chain imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-8.2% per year) and the Philippines (+8.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 21% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 34%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
