Myanmar (X tons) remains the largest chick peas producing country in ASEAN, comprising approx. 100% of total volume.

In 2022, the average chick peas yield in ASEAN fell to X tons per ha, leveling off at 2021. Overall, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the yield increased by 3.1% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, approx. X ha of chick peas were harvested in ASEAN; surging by 2.4% against the previous year's figure. In general, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 6.2%. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the chick peas harvested area remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2022, shipments abroad of chick peas decreased by -15.7% to X tons, falling for the fourth consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 848% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chick peas exports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 736% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Myanmar (X tons) represented roughly 98% of total exports in 2022.
Myanmar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the chick peas exports, with a CAGR of +5.7% from 2012 to 2022. Myanmar (+7.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Myanmar ($X) also remains the largest chick peas supplier in ASEAN.

Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Myanmar.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Myanmar amounted to -2.9% per year.

Imports in ASEAN
Chick peas imports soared to X tons in 2022, picking up by 24% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chick peas imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Malaysia represented the largest importer of chick peas in ASEAN, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 44% of total imports in 2022. Singapore (X tons) took a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (11%) and the Philippines (9.3%). The following importers - Vietnam (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - each accounted for a 5.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +30.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 83% of total imports. The Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +29.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 18%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Singapore ($X per ton) and the Philippines ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
