In 2022, the ASEAN chromatograph market decreased by -9.3% to $X, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption saw a perceptible decline. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Chromatograph exports expanded significantly to X units in 2022, increasing by 8% against the previous year's figure. Overall, exports continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, chromatograph exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Singapore dominates exports structure, accounting for X units, which was near 96% of total exports in 2022. Malaysia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to chromatograph exports from Singapore stood at +16.4%. At the same time, Malaysia (+51.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +51.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Malaysia increased by +3.5 percentage points.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest chromatograph supplier in ASEAN, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports.

In Singapore, chromatograph exports increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2012-2022.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -13.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Singapore amounted to $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (-6.6%).

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, imports of chromatographs and electrophoresis instruments in ASEAN declined significantly to X units, reducing by -18.9% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 47% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, chromatograph imports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Singapore (X units) was the main importer of chromatographs and electrophoresis instruments, mixing up 77% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X units), constituting a 14% share of total imports. Malaysia (X units), the Philippines (X units) and Vietnam (X units) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to chromatograph imports into Singapore stood at +7.3%. At the same time, the Philippines (+17.8%), Vietnam (+12.3%) and Malaysia (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +17.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Thailand (-3.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Singapore (+15 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Thailand (-19.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 7.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 3.5% share.

In Singapore, chromatograph imports expanded at an average annual rate of +16.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (-4.6% per year) and Vietnam (+7.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, growing by 37% against the previous year. Import price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, chromatograph import price increased by +42.8% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
