Moreover, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified production in the Philippines exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Thailand (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in the Philippines amounted to -4.7%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Thailand (+14.3% per year) and Malaysia (-2.5% per year).
The average citrus fruits not elsewhere classified yield declined modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, almost unchanged from 2021. Overall, the yield recorded a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the yield increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the citrus fruits not elsewhere classified yield attained the peak level at X tons per ha in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in ASEAN shrank modestly to X ha, dropping by -1.6% compared with the previous year. In 2022, shipments abroad of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified increased by 19% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports posted measured growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 255% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 145% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the major exporters of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in ASEAN, together generating 71% of total exports. Myanmar (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (6.1%). Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +61.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest citrus fruits not elsewhere classified supplier in ASEAN, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam totaled +9.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+21.2% per year) and Singapore (+52.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -2.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified export price increased by +29.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 47%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified increased by 24% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports posted pronounced growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Brunei Darussalam (X tons) represented the key importer of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified, achieving 37% of total imports. Singapore (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (19%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (9.4%), Malaysia (6.3%) and Vietnam (5.4%). Cambodia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +48.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest citrus fruits not elsewhere classified importing markets in ASEAN were Singapore ($X), Brunei Darussalam ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 79% of total imports. Vietnam, Malaysia, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +31.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 23% against the previous year. Import price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, citrus fruits not elsewhere classified import price increased by +48.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
