In 2021, Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented the major exporter of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof in ASEAN, constituting 82% of total export. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together committing an 18% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+31.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof increased by 15% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, computing machinery imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of computing machinery imports in 2021 were Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons), together amounting to 99% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of -0.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof in ASEAN, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 14% share.

In Singapore, computing machinery imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (-1.8% per year) and Malaysia (-1.3% per year).
