Concentrated Apple Juice Production in ASEAN

In value terms, concentrated apple juice production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +89.9% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, shipments abroad of concentrated apple juice decreased by -30.7% to X tons, falling for the fifth consecutive year after five years of growth. In general, exports showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 62%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Thailand was the largest exporter of concentrated apple juice in ASEAN, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 63% of total exports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X tons). All these countries together took near 33% share of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated apple juice exports from Thailand stood at -10.6%. At the same time, Indonesia (+13.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +13.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-3.5%) and Malaysia (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Singapore and Malaysia increased by +3.3 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest concentrated apple juice supplier in ASEAN, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 27% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand totaled -10.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-8.7% per year) and Singapore (-10.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, waning by -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+0.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Concentrated Apple Juice Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of concentrated apple juice imported in ASEAN reduced modestly to X tons, declining by -4.6% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated apple juice imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 9%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented roughly 75% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons), together constituting a 21% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +15.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 57% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +12.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+1.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
