The ASEAN degras market shrank to $X in 2021, dropping by -6.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a pronounced decline. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.
Degras Production in ASEAN
In value terms, degras production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
Degras exports reduced to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -12.5% compared with 2020 figures. In general, exports showed a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, degras exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Indonesia represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 83% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), making up a 16% share of total exports.
Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of degras. Malaysia (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Indonesia (+20 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Malaysia saw its share reduced by -12% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest degras supplier in ASEAN, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports.
In Indonesia, degras exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 74% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, degras export price increased by +87.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Indonesia amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+10.6%).
Degras Imports
Imports in ASEAN
Degras imports dropped sharply to X tons in 2021, waning by -20% on 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 353%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, degras imports fell to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 198%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Malaysia prevails in imports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 72% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Singapore (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) - together made up 6.3% of total imports.
Imports into Malaysia decreased at an average annual rate of -4.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+13.5%) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+13.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +13.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-1.1%), Vietnam (-20.1%) and Myanmar (-36.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Malaysia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Indonesia and Singapore increased by +38, +5.7, +4.6 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported degras in ASEAN, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 7.3% share.
In Malaysia, degras imports shrank by an average annual rate of -3.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (+11.1% per year) and Indonesia (+12.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, degras import price decreased by -26.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 53%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+20.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
