Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, the amount of dental cements and bone reconstruction cements exported in ASEAN reached X tons, growing by 3.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports recorded moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, medical reconstruction cements exports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Singapore (X tons) represented the largest exporter of dental cements and bone reconstruction cements, achieving 55% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 25% share, followed by Cambodia (17%). The following exporters - Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) - each reached a 3.8% share of total exports.

Exports from Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+10.0%), Cambodia (+7.1%) and Thailand (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +10.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-2.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Singapore (+15 p.p.), Vietnam (+12 p.p.) and Cambodia (+5.8 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest medical reconstruction cements supplier in ASEAN, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 29% share of total exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a 4% share.

In Singapore, medical reconstruction cements exports expanded at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+18.5% per year) and Cambodia (-8.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, rising by 9.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, medical reconstruction cements export price increased by +36.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, approx. X tons of dental cements and bone reconstruction cements were imported in ASEAN; with an increase of 11% against 2020. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -17.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, medical reconstruction cements imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -13.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) represented roughly 87% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), mixing up a 7.9% share of total imports. The following importers - the Philippines (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) - each accounted for a 4.5% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +18.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 78% of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +25.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
