Thailand, with a CAGR of +9.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, falling by -23.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -10.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 80%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imports of diesel engines (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the Philippines (X units) represented the key importer of diesel engines (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft), constituting 59% of total imports. Vietnam (X units) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (6.2%), Malaysia (4.9%) and Singapore (4.7%). The following importers - Thailand (X units) and Myanmar (X units) - each accounted for a 6% share of total imports.
The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the diesel engines (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) imports, with a CAGR of +10.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+9.6%), Myanmar (+8.8%), Indonesia (+4.2%) and Vietnam (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Malaysia (-3.9%) and Singapore (-5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Philippines increased by +22 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 64% of total imports. Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +5.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
