Disperse Dye Market Size in ASEAN

After two years of decline, the ASEAN disperse dye market increased by 14% to $X in 2021. The total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -17.3% against 2018 indices. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Disperse Dye Production in ASEAN

In value terms, disperse dye production rose modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2021, overseas shipments of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon increased by 46% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year declining trend. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, disperse dye exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Indonesia was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together achieving a 28% share of total exports. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to disperse dye exports from Indonesia stood at -1.4%. At the same time, Myanmar (+143.5%), Thailand (+9.0%) and Singapore (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +143.5% from 2012-2021. While the share of Singapore (+3.2 p.p.), Thailand (+2.4 p.p.) and Myanmar (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Myanmar ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 95% of total exports.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +818.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.1% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, disperse dye export price increased by +89.5% against 2013 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+6.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Disperse Dye Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2021, overseas purchases of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, disperse dye imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -10.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Indonesia was the major importer of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon in ASEAN, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 56% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Singapore (X tons), together making up a 38% share of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of disperse dyes and preparations based thereon. At the same time, Cambodia (+31.4%), Malaysia (+4.6%) and Vietnam (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +31.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-3.8%) and Singapore (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+4.4 p.p.), Indonesia (+1.9 p.p.) and Cambodia (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore and Thailand saw its share reduced by -2.6% and -4.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 87% share of total imports. Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -11.1% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, disperse dye import price decreased by -14.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
