In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest dog and cat food supplier in ASEAN, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 4.4% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand stood at +10.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+37.2% per year) and Cambodia (+26.4% per year).

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, growing by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 8.8%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+5.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, approx. X tons of dog and cat food were imported in ASEAN; surging by 8.4% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dog and cat food imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
The Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented roughly 62% of total imports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (7.8%) and Thailand (5.2%). Singapore (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +29.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Philippines ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 69% share of total imports.
Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +28.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
