Domestic Toaster Market Size in ASEAN

The ASEAN domestic toaster market amounted to $X in 2022, increasing by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a buoyant increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, domestic toaster production expanded significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 27%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, shipments abroad of domestic electric toasters decreased by -16.2% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 188%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, domestic toaster exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 283% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

The Philippines was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which recorded 61% of total exports. Vietnam (X units) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X units). All these countries together took approx. 33% share of total exports. The following exporters - Thailand (X units) and Malaysia (X units) - together made up 5.4% of total exports.

The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the domestic electric toasters exports, with a CAGR of +143.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+33.7%) and Vietnam (+26.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Malaysia (-1.3%) and Singapore (-14.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand increased by +61, +19 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X) remains the largest domestic toaster supplier in ASEAN, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the Philippines totaled +172.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+32.0% per year) and Thailand (+37.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+11.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Domestic Toaster Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, supplies from abroad of domestic electric toasters decreased by -17.2% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 26%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then shrank notably in the following year.

In value terms, domestic toaster imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Malaysia was the major importing country with an import of around X units, which recorded 42% of total imports. Thailand (X units) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Philippines (16%), Singapore (9.9%), Indonesia (6.6%) and Vietnam (5.4%).

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to domestic toaster imports into Malaysia stood at +3.0%. At the same time, Vietnam (+12.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +12.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-1.9%), the Philippines (-1.9%), Thailand (-3.9%) and Indonesia (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Malaysia and Vietnam increased by +13 and +3.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported domestic electric toasters in ASEAN, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 15% share.

In Malaysia, domestic toaster imports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+2.4% per year) and Thailand (-1.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -3.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
