In 2021, shipments abroad of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wooden door exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Indonesia (X units) was the largest exporter of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood, achieving 62% of total exports. Malaysia (X units) took a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (5.5%) and Thailand (4.5%). The Philippines (X units) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wooden door exports from Indonesia stood at +9.6%. At the same time, the Philippines (+18.2%) and Vietnam (+14.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +18.2% from 2012-2021. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Indonesia (+21 p.p.) and Vietnam (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -2.3% and -21.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest wooden door supplier in ASEAN, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 8.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Indonesia stood at +7.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-4.3% per year) and Vietnam (+15.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 5.6%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood decreased by -8.8% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X units in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, wooden door imports declined slightly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 52%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Thailand was the main importer of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood in ASEAN, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 32% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X units), Malaysia (X units), Singapore (X units), Indonesia (X units) and Cambodia (X units), together achieving a 62% share of total imports. Myanmar (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+40.5%), Indonesia (+25.8%), Malaysia (+20.8%), Myanmar (+6.7%) and the Philippines (+6.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +40.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-10.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+13 p.p.), Malaysia (+11 p.p.), Indonesia (+10 p.p.), Cambodia (+7.1 p.p.) and the Philippines (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Singapore (-38.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest wooden door importing markets in ASEAN were the Philippines ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 58% of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 37%.

Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +38.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
