In 2021, shipments abroad of draw-benches for bars, tubes, profiles, wire or the like decreased by -24.5% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 247% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bar draw-bench exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 165%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Malaysia (X units) was the main exporter of draw-benches for bars, tubes, profiles, wire or the like, comprising 56% of total exports. Myanmar (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Cambodia (10%), Singapore (6.3%) and Vietnam (5.8%). Indonesia (X units) and Thailand (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to bar draw-bench exports from Malaysia stood at +12.5%. At the same time, Cambodia (+17.3%) and Indonesia (+13.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +17.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-13.6%), Vietnam (-14.1%), Singapore (-15.6%) and Myanmar (-33.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (+36 p.p.), Myanmar (+14 p.p.), Cambodia (+7.7 p.p.) and Indonesia (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore saw its share reduced by -9.7%, -17.9% and -24% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest bar draw-bench supplier in ASEAN, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Myanmar ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Malaysia totaled +26.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Myanmar (-32.6% per year) and Cambodia (+28.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 138%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+12.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of draw-benches for bars, tubes, profiles, wire or the like decreased by -25.7% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports faced a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bar draw-bench imports reduced notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Indonesia represented the main importer of draw-benches for bars, tubes, profiles, wire or the like in ASEAN, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was approx. 44% of total imports in 2021. Vietnam (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 23% share, followed by Thailand (17%) and Cambodia (4.8%). The Philippines (X units), Myanmar (X units) and Singapore (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +43.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 89% of total imports. These countries were followed by Cambodia, the Philippines, Singapore and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 6.7%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +25.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -29% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 33% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Myanmar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
