After four years of decline, the ASEAN market for drawn glass and blown glass increased by 12% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, showed a pronounced reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, drawn glass and blown glass production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 17%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
For the fifth year in a row, ASEAN recorded growth in overseas shipments of drawn glass and blown glass, which increased by 29% to X square meters in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 74%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, drawn glass and blown glass exports totaled $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 73%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X square meters) was the main exporter of drawn glass and blown glass, creating 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X square meters), comprising a 21% share of total exports. Indonesia (X square meters), Vietnam (X square meters) and Singapore (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of -6.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+92.8%) and Vietnam (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +92.8% from 2012-2021. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Philippines increased by +21 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest drawn glass and blown glass supplying countries in ASEAN were the Philippines ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 96% share of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +157.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per square meter in 2021, dropping by -17.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 26%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per square meter), while Thailand ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+33.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Drawn Glass And Blown Glass
Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, purchases abroad of drawn glass and blown glass was finally on the rise to reach X square meters for the first time since 2012, thus ending a eight-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, drawn glass and blown glass imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Malaysia (X square meters) represented the key importer of drawn glass and blown glass, mixing up 44% of total imports. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X square meters) held a 27% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (10%), Myanmar (7.8%) and Singapore (4.6%). The Philippines (X square meters) and Cambodia (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +41.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported drawn glass and blown glass in ASEAN, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), with a 7.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 5.5% share.
In Malaysia, drawn glass and blown glass imports increased at an average annual rate of +23.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lao People's Democratic Republic (+17.9% per year) and Vietnam (-9.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per square meter in 2021, dropping by -34.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per square meter), while Myanmar ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
