The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -0.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 22%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Exports in ASEAN
In 2021, the amount of egg products exported in ASEAN expanded sharply to X tons, growing by 9.9% against the previous year. In general, exports showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 35%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, egg product exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -19.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons) was the largest exporter of egg products, making up 62% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (16%). Indonesia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to egg product exports from Thailand stood at +2.6%. At the same time, Indonesia (+68.3%), Vietnam (+30.3%) and Malaysia (+18.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +68.3% from 2012-2021. Vietnam (+15 p.p.), Malaysia (+9.9 p.p.) and Indonesia (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -28% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest egg product supplier in ASEAN, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 13% share.
In Thailand, egg product exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+20.6% per year) and Malaysia (+21.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Indonesia ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Egg Product Imports
Imports in ASEAN
For the sixth year in a row, ASEAN recorded growth in purchases abroad of egg products, which increased by 18% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, egg product imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.2% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 35%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Thailand (X tons), distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the largest importers of egg products, together creating 97% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +19.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest egg product importing markets in ASEAN were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and the Philippines ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia, which together accounted for a further 35%.
Malaysia, with a CAGR of +13.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -4.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 9% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
