In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of electrical apparatus for sound or visual signalling, when their volume decreased by -11.6% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 80% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, electrical signalling apparatus exports contracted sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Vietnam (X units) represented the main exporter of electrical apparatus for sound or visual signalling, committing 51% of total exports. Thailand (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 16% share, followed by Singapore (14%) and Indonesia (11%). The following exporters - the Philippines (X units) and Malaysia (X units) - each resulted at an 8.2% share of total exports.

Exports from Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +66.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Philippines (+69.7%), Indonesia (+65.6%) and Singapore (+9.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +69.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Thailand (-2.0%) and Malaysia (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+50 p.p.), Indonesia (+11 p.p.) and the Philippines (+4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand saw its share reduced by -2.5%, -20.1% and -42.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest electrical signalling apparatus supplier in ASEAN, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 7.2% share.

In Vietnam, electrical signalling apparatus exports increased at an average annual rate of +80.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+9.3% per year) and Thailand (-8.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -7.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+8.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, electrical signalling apparatus imports in ASEAN reached X units, with an increase of 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, electrical signalling apparatus imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 26%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Thailand represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which resulted at 51% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X units), Singapore (X units) and Vietnam (X units), together constituting a 42% share of total imports. Malaysia (X units) and Cambodia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to electrical signalling apparatus imports into Thailand stood at +7.5%. At the same time, Vietnam (+25.7%), Cambodia (+22.0%), Singapore (+8.5%) and Malaysia (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012-2022. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Cambodia increased by +9.5, +5.8, +2.9 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest electrical signalling apparatus importing markets in ASEAN were Thailand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together accounting for 86% of total imports. Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +23.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per unit, growing by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
