The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 206% against the previous year. In 2021, electronic metal tester imports in ASEAN surged to X units, increasing by 16% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 87% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electronic metal tester imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 26%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Indonesia (X units) was the largest importer of electronic machines and appliances for testing metals, comprising 46% of total imports. The Philippines (X units) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (11%), Vietnam (9.5%), Malaysia (8.9%) and Thailand (5.5%). Cambodia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electronic metal tester imports into Indonesia stood at -6.4%. At the same time, Cambodia (+38.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +38.9% from 2012-2021. Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Thailand ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 66% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +62.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per unit in 2021, falling by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 81%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+17.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
