In 2022, the amount of ferro-alloys exported in ASEAN declined slightly to X tons, which is down by X% on the previous year. In general, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ferro-alloys exports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) was the largest exporter of ferro-alloys, constituting X% of total exports. Indonesia (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (X%). Myanmar (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ferro-alloys exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (X%), Myanmar (X%) and Indonesia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Vietnam (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (X p.p.), Myanmar (X p.p.) and Thailand (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia and Vietnam saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest ferro-alloys supplying countries in ASEAN were Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Myanmar ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Myanmar ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN

For the third consecutive year, ASEAN recorded growth in overseas purchases of ferro-alloys, which increased by X% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ferro-alloys imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

Indonesia dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Vietnam (X%) and Malaysia (X%). The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Indonesia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the ferro-alloys imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Philippines (X%), Vietnam (X%), Malaysia (X%) and Thailand (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Indonesia (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the Philippines (X p.p.), Vietnam (X p.p.), Malaysia (X p.p.) and Thailand (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ferro-alloys in ASEAN, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a X% share.

In Indonesia, ferro-alloys imports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (X% per year) and Vietnam (X% per year).
