In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, when their volume increased by 11% to X tons. In general, exports, however, showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, metal filing cabinet exports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 14%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Singapore (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the major exporters of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, together achieving 95% of total exports. The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +8.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest metal filing cabinet supplier in ASEAN, comprising 44% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 14% share.

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 20%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+23.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
For the fourth consecutive year, ASEAN recorded decline in purchases abroad of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal, which decreased by -7.8% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 39%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, metal filing cabinet imports declined to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Indonesia was the key importer of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal in ASEAN, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 61% of total imports in 2021. Singapore (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Malaysia (9.4%), Thailand (6%) and Cambodia (5.5%). Vietnam (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of filing cabinets, card-index cabinets or desk equipment of base metal. At the same time, Cambodia (+13.1%), Malaysia (+9.9%) and Vietnam (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +13.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-6.2%), Singapore (-10.0%) and the Philippines (-17.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Indonesia (+11 p.p.), Malaysia (+6.4 p.p.) and Cambodia (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Thailand (-2.1 p.p.), the Philippines (-8.2 p.p.) and Singapore (-11 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 74% of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 24%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +16.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -4.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 94%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
