In 2021, the ASEAN fishing rod market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In 2021, overseas shipments of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fishing rod exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Vietnam (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) represented the main exporters of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle, together comprising 97% of total exports. Cambodia (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +60.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest fishing rod supplying countries in ASEAN were Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 77% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines and Cambodia, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Among the main exporting countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +51.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Fishing rod imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, picking up by 57% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports posted prominent growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, fishing rod imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) represented the largest importer of fishing rods and other line fishing tackle, mixing up 47% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons), together achieving a 49% share of total imports. Vietnam (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +21.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fishing rods and other line fishing tackle in ASEAN, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore amounted to +12.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+20.3% per year) and Malaysia (-3.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, declining by -22.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 14%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+7.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
