In 2021, overseas shipments of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons increased by 0.3% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 75%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports stood at $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +110.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 87%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Singapore represented the main exporter of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons in ASEAN, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was approx. 75% of total exports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held near 21% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from Singapore stood at +1.0%. At the same time, Vietnam (+37.9%), Malaysia (+10.5%) and Thailand (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +37.9% from 2012-2021. While the share of Malaysia (+6.6 p.p.), Vietnam (+3.7 p.p.) and Thailand (+3.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Singapore (-5.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives supplier in ASEAN, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore totaled +6.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+6.9% per year) and Thailand (+1.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, imports of fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons in ASEAN was estimated at X tons, growing by 11% against 2020 figures. In general, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbons derivatives imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 38%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 56% of total imports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Singapore (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together held near 42% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +18.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorinated, brominated or iodinated derivatives of acyclic hydrocarbons in ASEAN, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 19% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore totaled +7.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-1.3% per year) and Malaysia (+13.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 9.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
