Malaysia (X tons) remains the largest fresh pork cut producing country in ASEAN, comprising approx. 94% of total volume. Moreover, fresh pork cut production in Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Thailand (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Malaysia totaled +1.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+20.8% per year) and Indonesia (+0.9% per year).

In 2022, the amount of fresh or chilled hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat exported in ASEAN expanded significantly to X tons, growing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, exports, however, faced a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 21%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fresh pork cut exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia prevails in exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2022. Vietnam (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Malaysia decreased at an average annual rate of -10.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Vietnam (+24.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +24.3% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam increased by +4.2 percentage points.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest fresh pork cut supplier in ASEAN, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 2% share of total exports.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, purchases abroad of fresh or chilled hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat increased by 4.1% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fresh pork cut imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Vietnam (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together generating 97% of total imports. The Philippines (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +39.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Brunei Darussalam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fresh or chilled hams, shoulders and cuts of pig meat in ASEAN, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 29% share of total imports.
