In value terms, glass in the mass production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the production volume increased by 25%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, glass in the mass exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the glass in mass exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Cambodia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 90% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Myanmar (X tons), comprising a 5.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +67.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 64% share of total exports. Singapore, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +61.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+10.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Glass in the mass imports soared to X tons in 2022, picking up by 89% on the year before. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, glass in the mass imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 173% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) was the major importer of glass in the mass, committing 57% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 43% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to glass in the mass imports into Malaysia stood at +3.0%. At the same time, Vietnam (+20.9%), Thailand (+18.8%) and Indonesia (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +20.9% from 2012-2022. While the share of Thailand (+11 p.p.) and Vietnam (+4.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Malaysia (-5.9 p.p.) and Indonesia (-7.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported glass in the mass in ASEAN, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand totaled +44.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (+1.5% per year) and Malaysia (-14.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, falling by -35.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the import price increased by 114%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
