In value terms, exports of graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets rose slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Indonesia represented the major exporter of graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets in ASEAN, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 66% of total exports in 2021. Singapore (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 20% share, followed by Thailand (13%).

Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets. At the same time, Singapore (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +3.1% from 2012-2021. Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, approx. X tons of graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets were imported in ASEAN; with a decrease of -11.2% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -26.8% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Singapore was the major importer of graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets in ASEAN, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 59% of total imports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Vietnam (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 34% share of total imports. Thailand (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets imports into Singapore stood at +8.6%. At the same time, the Philippines (+28.3%) and Vietnam (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +28.3% from 2012-2021. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+16 p.p.) and the Philippines (+6.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Thailand and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -2% and -11.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported graphic paper with mechanical fibre content under 10% and of weight X-150 g/m2 in sheets in ASEAN, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Singapore totaled +6.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (-1.4% per year) and Vietnam (+4.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
