For the third consecutive year, the ASEAN graphic papers market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 8.9% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, graphic papers production dropped modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 17%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in ASEAN
Graphic papers exports contracted to X tons in 2022, falling by -12.6% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, graphic papers exports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, exports showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Indonesia was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 78% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) held a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (6.4%).
Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of graphic papers. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Singapore (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Indonesia and Thailand increased by +3.8 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest graphic papers supplier in ASEAN, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Indonesia amounted to -1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (+0.0% per year) and Singapore (-6.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (-0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2022, the amount of graphic papers imported in ASEAN contracted rapidly to X tons, falling by -24.5% against 2021. In general, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2022, Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) was the largest importer of graphic papers in ASEAN, achieving 93% of total import. Myanmar (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +8.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 59% of total imports. The Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +10.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in the Philippines ($X per ton) and Myanmar ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+5.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
