Animal Guts Market Size in ASEAN

After four years of decline, the ASEAN animal guts market increased by 0.3% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Animal Guts Production in ASEAN

In value terms, animal guts production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports in ASEAN

In 2022, shipments abroad of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals decreased by -10.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, animal guts exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 257%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Thailand prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2022. Singapore (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the guts, bladders and stomachs of animals exports, with a CAGR of +27.6% from 2012 to 2022. Singapore (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Thailand (+45 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Singapore (-34.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest animal guts supplier in ASEAN, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 2.5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand totaled +34.3%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, animal guts export price increased by +26.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Singapore amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+5.3%).

Animal Guts Imports

Imports in ASEAN

In 2022, approx. X tons of guts, bladders and stomachs of animals were imported in ASEAN; remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 112%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, animal guts imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Vietnam was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 47% of total imports. Thailand (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Philippines (12%), Singapore (11%) and Malaysia (7.8%).

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the guts, bladders and stomachs of animals imports, with a CAGR of +29.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+16.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (-1.1%) and the Philippines (-2.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+39 p.p.) and Thailand (+9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines saw its share reduced by -12.3%, -12.5% and -23.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported guts, bladders and stomachs of animals in ASEAN, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 10% share.

In Vietnam, animal guts imports expanded at an average annual rate of +39.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+16.8% per year) and Singapore (-0.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -4.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, animal guts import price increased by +26.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+19.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
