Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, hair lotion and preparation exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 13%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 71% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together mixing up a 24% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to hair lotion and preparation exports from Thailand stood at -1.7%. At the same time, Singapore (+9.0%), Malaysia (+1.8%) and Vietnam (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of +9.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Singapore increased by +5.6 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest hair lotion and preparation supplier in ASEAN, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand totaled -4.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+11.5% per year) and Indonesia (+4.6% per year).

In 2021, the export price in ASEAN amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Vietnam ($X per ton) and Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+6.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in ASEAN

For the seventh year in a row, ASEAN recorded growth in supplies from abroad of hair lotion and preparation, which increased by 8.8% to X tons in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 13%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, hair lotion and preparation imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of hair lotion and preparation imports in 2021 were Indonesia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons), together finishing at 91% of total import. Myanmar (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +12.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 55% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 41%.

Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +9.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
