The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +68.2% against 2018 indices. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
The shipments of the three major exporters of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons, namely Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, represented more than two-thirds of total export. Vietnam (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (9.6%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +37.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives supplier in ASEAN, comprising 57% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 11% share.
In Singapore, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+18.2% per year) and Malaysia (+5.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -19% against the previous year. Export price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives export price increased by +36.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 38%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in ASEAN
In 2021, approx. X tons of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons were imported in ASEAN; jumping by 58% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a resilient expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country
In 2021, Cambodia (X tons) was the main importer of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons, mixing up 42% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held near 52% share of total imports. Singapore (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +9.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Cambodia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons in ASEAN, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 14% share.
In Cambodia, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Philippines (+42.3% per year) and Indonesia (-3.1% per year).
